Hello, Ryan here-
I mean to this be a fireside chat, State of the Podcast sort of update on how things are going. Imagine I am nestled up by a fire in a knit sweater with a plaid blanket on my legs and a mug filled to the brim with pure whiskey and a few Skittles inside you cannot see. Rest assured, they are there.
Why, it seems like only yesterday that 43 of you, my most enthusiastic supporters set aside our myriad differences* and donated to the weird comedy fiction podcast Finding Pattersby. In so doing you turned dreams into reality. Congratulations Dreamweavers, you’ve woven.
*(I’m a no-socks-in-bed-kinda-guy, and statistically speaking at least one of you are.)
As truth lies (whoa), it was only 7 months ago in May that all this happened. Now that the money has been safely sent to my loan shark Killy Willy (a man who does not mince words but DOES mince men) - and, now that I am still alive, I thought I’d divulge where things stand with the production and backer rewards and my appreciation.
1) PRODUCTION
As it stands we’re working toward a release date of June 2023. We'd been considering earlier but this will be the smarter play. Also, that’s when the new Indiana Jones and John Wick comes out and our goal is to put a huge dent in their box office numbers or at least give people in line something to listen to before entering the theater. This schedule has been selected because the project is very special to me, Ryan (né The RyGuy) and I want to get it as right as possible without losing momentum. We’ve recorded a nice chunk of performers already and every single person has elevated the material to places I could have never imagined. We've got more guests on the way and can’t wait to share what we’re cooking up.
Perhaps most exciting, we’ve been actively collaborating with our amazing talented music and sound wizard Erik Jourgensen on the style and character of our soundtrack and compositions. The inspirations we’ve landed on are truly going to take this project to a singular place of weird art that’s funny while also being incredibly stylish and transcendent (seriously check out his updated site: https://www.erikjourgensen.com/)
2) BACKER REWARDS
I can’t thank you enough for believing in this project. All I can say is that I’m “putting my whole ass” into this and want it to be memorable but more importantly funny. I’m a dyed in the wool comedy nerd who has cut his teeth on a fair amount of bizaare and silly projects, so making this project is less an indulgence and more a chance to basically come to Show and Tell with something that will steal attention away from Teacher and make the students burst into the halls and get even with that no-good principal with the help of The Ramones - wait that’s just the plot to Rock n’ Roll High School...or is it??? (it is). I’m just saying there’s tons of love going into this and those are my favorite projects to engage with. The ones with love. Maybes yours favorites toos?
So with the 2023 release date, we’ll be aiming to send out associated rewards around May 2023, leading up to the launch so that everyone can get all ginned up and ready to pop and swag-brag right up until the first episode drops.
3) APPRECIATION
As I’m sure is true for many of you, these past few years have been rough. Like really difficult. I’ve been tasked with basically being the Viggo Mortensen in The Road to the Kodi Smit-McPhee that is my 4yr old daughter up here on a snowy mountain and it hasn’t been easy but it has been grounding. However, you can’t pour from an empty cup and the promise of this project has kept my cup not only full, but full with whiskey and Skittles and more importantly with creative excitement. I know a fair amount of you are artists and makers and builders yourself, so you understand the feeling of wanting to have something to show for yourself. To mine the depths of your potential and keep the horn blowing (you pick what horn this is). To keep that fire burning because that’s what you’ve always done. For me I simply like a lot of jokes and take pride in executing solid comedy pinned to balanced storytelling. I built a good puzzle that’s going to make you smile and shake your head and say "damn that's ridiculous" before the ticket taker takes your Indiana Jones ticket.
So thank you again for being not just my patrons but my champions. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to just catch up because I like you…even though one of you might wear socks in the bed.
Happy Holidays,
Ryan
